A quick ‘Hi’ from Susan.
My husband Chris, has been encouraging me for ages to share God’s wisdom with Christian Women.
I’m a busy girl, so it’s easier said than done. However, I’m now under way, and I even think I’m going to enjoy this process!
What’s that I hear? Oh. So you want to know who I am.
OK. Let’s see.
I’m a Wife and Mum. Probably like many of you. My oldest child is now 34, so if you’re quick off the mark with some mental maths, you will have already figured I’ve got to be at least 50-something.
Well, you’re right. I’m 55. I’m not trendy, and my hair is going grey. In fact, I was 42 when I began to colour my hair, but always said that when I was 50 I would stop. And stop I did. As you can imagine, it took a little getting used to at first - I was soooo much greyer than when I was 42. Up to the age of 49 I would get infrequent comments from people saying, “You don’t look old enough to be the mother of 7 children”. Funny how those comments stopped once I let my hair show all its glorious natural colour (or lack thereof)……
Anyway, if your brain hasn’t been elsewhere as your eyes scanned this blog, you will have noticed that I have 7 children. All girls except six of them…. The first five are aged from 26 to 34 and the last 2 are aged 10 and 13.
Yes, there IS a big gap between the 5th and 6th children, and no, I didn’t re-marry! Same father for all seven. Perhaps one day I’ll tell you the story, but this isn’t the place to do that.
My first four boys are married and the first three have given us 10 grandchildren all up. Plans are underway for more. My daughters-in-law are all delightful, and each of them, like our children, have committed to follow Jesus Christ, not just as Saviour, but also as Lord.
My husband has been a Pastor for a lot of years, though now, our main focus is on itinerant ministry. He’s written a few books, and has his own blog site at chrisfieldblog.com.
I have plenty to do each day. I homeschool our last two children, enjoy the visits of my older children and grandchildren, make websites - especially our familyhorizons.net site, take time in the sun each day to get my Vitamin D levels back to where they should be, cook, write, mend clothing, go on regular dates with my husband, shop, watch my children and grandchildren performing their latest play …. you know, all the zillion and one things that a wife and mum does these days.
But the best part of the day is the time I spend in the morning reading the Bible and praying. Sometimes I sit on my bed where I can also look across the suburban landscape to the distant mountains. Other times I sit on the rocking chair in the corner of my room. The ‘where’ isn’t really so important. What IS important is the feast I enjoy as I meditate on God’s Word, the peace that comes as I give God the concerns and cares of my heart, and the joy of knowing that my prayers are making a difference for my family, my neighbours, my nation and the world. I leave the room nourished and strengthened for the day.
Well, I think that’ll be enough information to get you going. I’ve got to go and finish making the lamb curry for tonight’s dinner now. I’m hoping to put up 2 or 3 blog posts a week - though that may be a bit ambitious. You’re welcome to come back and check. Leave a comment if you wish.
Susan
Hello Susan,
Thank you for sharing so beautifully some of the ‘ who’ of you.
Having met you at home last week together with Chris, your youngest two children and meditated on your vast family portrait gallery you are a shining beacon for wives and mothers everywhere.
Placid, is how I remember you. At the same time I appreciate how much stuff you daily deal with so I see the ‘placid’ as the peace of God working in your life no matter how many other things take your time and talent.
Thank you for sharing your fruit.
God bless you.
